1. A 1 year old child presents with severe anaemia, slight fever
and a very bad headache. His mother tells you that there has been an outbreak
of Parvovirus B19 in his day care centre.
2. A 3 week old baby presents
with fluid filled skin lesions on the skin around her stomach, eyes and mouth.
She is irritable and is not feeding well. Her mother says that she may have had
a cold sore during her pregnancy but she can’t remember.
3. A young mother is rushed to
hospital and gives birth prematurely to a small boy who has difficulty
breathing, he is suffering from pneumonitis and also
appears jaundice.
4. A neonate is born with microcephaly,
further investigations show that he is also deaf. His mother was diagnosed with
German measles during her first trimester.
5. A premature 2 day old boy develops a fever and bradycardia. He has difficulty breathing and is not
feeding. His CSF shows high WCC and is sent off for culture.
